to die for
like any good piece of antique jewelry, poison rings have a long history that hasn't lost its relevance. originating in the far east and india, these rings eventually made their way to europe where, legend has it, people would hide poison below a decadent finger jewel and slip it into their enemy's drink. but it's not all so morbid. during the renaissance era, tiny portraits were painted to place inside these locket rings as a sign of affection. in the 17th century these rings were designed to resemble caskets and worn by mourners in remembrance of loved ones. today, 21st century gals like myself scour vintage stores in search of a little piece of history, and a little bling.
i bought my own poison ring from susan at magic fingers, old good things on 10th street between 1st and 2nd avenue in the east village. what will i put in side? it's a little secret.
